A delicious expression of Sauvignon Blanc

Jean Michel Sorbe took over the family business in 1973 and spent more than 30 years pouring his heart and soul into giving the Quincy and Reuilly appellations a solid reputation within the wine world. His Reuilly is known as one of the best of its kind - a mineral, fresh Sauvignon Blanc from 35-year-old vines grown on sandy gravel soil with calcareous marl.

Grapes & Vinification

The Sauvignon Blanc (4.8 ha) grows on alluvial sandy gravel and marl soil in Reuilly. The grapes are mechanically harvested at the end of September/beginning of October, pressed immediately using a pneumatic press, and cold settled. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. The result is a pale yellow wine with green reflections, an intense nose of pear, citrus, and white flowers, a rich palate with fresh tension, and a harmonious, crisp finish.

It goes without saying that his reputation is significant within these wine regions, and his Reuilly and Quincy wines are known as the best of their kind.

Through a mutual friend, Sorbe came into contact with another well-known winemaking family in the Loire, the Mellot family. A collaboration followed in 1988, and when Sorbe's children showed no interest in following in their father's footsteps, he sold his estate to the Mellot family in 1999. The Jean Michel Sorbe wines are still produced under his own name. The Jean Michel Sorbe vineyards cover 11 hectares in Reuilly and 3 hectares in Quincy.
