A relatively young winery founded in 2001. They own approximately 220 hectares and produce attractive, almost crisp Riojas primarily from Tempranillo, Garnacha, Graciana, and Mazuelo. In addition to American oak, which accounts for 80%, they also use 20% French oak.
The wines of Bodegas Medievo are characterized by their vibrant fruit expression. This is achieved through temperature-controlled fermentation. As such, this is a wine producer that can be classified among the modernists. Cool fermentation and subtle use of oak are central to this group, in contrast to the traditionalists who prefer wine with a ripe and oxidative character that undergoes long wood aging in American oak barrels.
