Domain information:
Picpoul-de-Pinet lies directly on the large Thau Basin, the main breeding ground for oyster farming, west of Sète. Picpoul encompasses six communes and is a sub-appellation within the Coteaux du Languedoc. Picpoul has its own climate zone. The area lies at an altitude of 65 meters and was included in the AOC Coteaux du Languedoc in 1985. Picpoul is working towards its own AOC status.
This Picpoul de Pinet from Domaine De Belle Mare is a fresh wine with soft notes of white fruit and flowers. Its salty, mineral flavor and slightly spicy finish are also surprising.
Picpoul is an excellent wine to pair with fish, oysters (along with Chablis, it's also a perfect oyster water), mussels, and surprisingly, it pairs exceptionally well with asparagus. Asparagus from Zeeland and Texel, in particular, have a similar briny note.
