Located in Ventenac, in the Cabardès region, the estate has been owned by Alain Maurel since 1973. From the beginning, he studied the soil types—limestone, gravel, and marl—as well as the local climate. Based on his findings, he sought out the most suitable grape varieties, and in addition to Cabernet and Merlot, which have long been planted in the region, Syrah and Grenache also proved to thrive here. The Cabardès region lies at the junction of two climate zones: the Atlantic and the Mediterranean. All four grape varieties flourish in both zones. Since 2011, son-in-law Olivier Ramé, married to daughter Stéphanie, has been managing the estate. His goal is to produce wines with character that also possess a certain level of accessibility.
