Domain information:
The estate, located in Ventenac in the Cabardès region, has been owned by Alain Maurel since 1973. From the beginning, he studied the soil types—limestone, gravel, and marl—and the local climate. Based on his experiences, he sought out the most suitable grape varieties, and in addition to the long-established Cabernet and Merlot, Syrah and Grenache also proved to thrive in the region. The Cabardès region lies at the intersection of two climatic zones: the Atlantic and the Mediterranean. All four grape varieties thrive in both zones. Since 2011, his son-in-law Olivier Ramé, married to his daughter Stéphanie, has managed the estate. His goal is to produce wines with character, but they must also possess a certain degree of accessibility.
