The estate is located in Lancié, in the heart of the Beaujolais. In 1976, Gérard Gelin - son and grandson of winemakers - bought the "Clos des Nugues," from which the estate takes its name. In 2000, his son Gilles joined him to further develop the estate. In 2008, Gérard retired and Gilles' wife, Magali, joined the estate. In 2010, Gilles took over the family business completely.
In 2018, the estate obtained the HVE certificate (High Environmental Value), recognition for sustainable and environmentally friendly viticulture. Since 1976, new vineyard plots have been gradually acquired around the estate.
